A spokesperson from the Department of the Environment, Tourism Science and Innovation (DETSI) weighed in on the attack.
The spokesperson said, "We are investigating reports of a crocodile attack in Ingham. Wildlife rangers will conduct a site assessment."
Hinchinbrook Shire Council Mayor, Ramon Jayo, confirmed the attack. He said the area was common for crocodile sightings. He described the area as crocodile country with one homeowner finding a reptile behind their home. He praised first responders for helping the injured man.
"I would like to commend the quick-thinking actions of community members and frontline responders who assisted the injured man," Jayo said.
"This incident is a timely reminder that we live in croc country and that we should all be croc-wise," he added. "We have even seen a 6-foot crocodile walking around Lucinda after making a home in local stormwater drains as recently as Sunday."
