22-Year-Old Paralyzed After Large Tree Branch Fell on Her

A 22-year-old suffered life-changing injuries after a large tree branch fell on her. The incident happened in California. The resulting injuries caused the young one to be paralyzed.

22-year-old Jasmine Mayer was knitting with her friend under a tree. That's when a tree branch fell on top of her, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The tree branch caused life-threatening injuries. The 22-year-old ended up at UC Davis Medical Center with a spinal cord injury.

"Her lower body is currently paralyzed, but some pins-and-needles-type sensation is beginning to return to her legs and feet," the fundraiser confirmed. "The road ahead will be long as she moves through the stages of recovery, physical therapy, and adjusts to a new normal."

Jasmine's father, Andy, discussed his daughter's injuries.

"She was knitting and talking to her friend, and the branch came right down on them," Andy told the San Francisco Chronicle. "We've talked about it since. There's no anger. There's no drunk driver. It's just an unimaginable incident."

Doctors treated her for internal bleeding and blood clots as well. Fortunately, Jasmine's spinal cord wasn't completely severed by the tree branch. So there's hope she will recover.

"She's paralyzed from the waist down. Time will tell," Andy said. "I'm hopeful. She's hopeful. She's going to work hard on her recovery."

Right now, the family is thankful for the support that people have showed her.

"It is impossible to find the words to describe how thankful and moved we are by the incredible show of community from every person here," GoFundMe organizer, Lauren Kelleher, wrote.

Meanwhile, Andy is hopeful that things will continue to improve for his daughter.

"She's such a strong, positive kid," he told the paper. "She's been kind to everyone through the pain - she's been a positive person, and that hasn't changed at all."
