Colorado Turkey Hunter Found Dead After Going Missing

A Colorado turkey hunter has sadly passed away. Authorities located his body after he went missing earlier this month.

27-year-old Kaden Sites did not show up for his doctor's appointment. This launched a search and rescue operation for the missing turkey hunter.

The hunter went on a solo hunting trip on Shavano Mountain in Chaffee County on Wednesday, April 15. He then went missing, the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) previously said in a news release.

Family began searching for him. They ultimately located his truck "near the Blanks Cabin Trailhead on Shavano Mountain." But there were no signs of the hunter.

Sadly, search and rescue located his body on April 25. They found him near Tabaguache Creek. It was just a mile away from his truck.

Police released a statement about his death.

"Our hearts go out to the Sites family and friends this evening. Chaffee County has lost a wonderful member of our community which has left a void in our hearts," Sheriff Andy Rohrich said in a statement.

The discovery comes after multiple days of searching for the missing turkey hunter. Authorities were "utilizing dog teams, drones, helicopters, fixed wing aircraft" to search the area for him.

Dozens turned out to search for the missing man. Following his passing, his family released a statement about his death.

"We're just feeling very fortunate that there are so many people who really care," Kaden's sister Hannah previously said.

In his statement, the sheriff said, "There was always a measure of hope that Kaden would be found alive." He said authorities "are thankful the family will have some level of closure."

"Thank you to everyone who joined in the efforts to bring Kaden home," he added. "It is such a loving community we have."
