A mystery woman who was struck by lightning has finally been identified. She has spent several days after being put in critical condition from the lightning strike.
The incident happened in Superior, Colorado. In a statement, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office confirmed they've identified the woman. Her family has arrived at the hospital.
"Her family is now by her side, and she remains in critical condition," police said. "Out of respect for her privacy, no additional information will be released at this time. We appreciate the community's assistance and support during this incident."
On April 9, the woman was struck by lightning while on a walking path.
"Bystanders reported hearing a loud boom and then located the female lying beneath a tree that had been struck by lightning. She was unresponsive, and bystanders immediately began administering CPR," police said in an April 10 statement.
Lightning Strikes Woman
"After continued resuscitation efforts, she regained a faint pulse and began breathing on her own but remained unconscious," the press release said. Fortunately, the woman was able to regain a pulse and breathing. But authorities strugled to identify her.
"She was not carrying identification, and her cell phone was severely damaged and inoperable," the release read. "Multiple efforts to identify her, including fingerprinting and review of missing persons reports in Boulder County, have not been successful."
The lightning had also fried her phone, and fingerprinting proved to be less than helpful.
"We are not releasing a photo right now because she sustained significant trauma from the lightning strike and she does not look like herself right now," the update said.
Fortunately, her family apparently stepped forward. It's good that she will have a support network to help her recover from this incident.
