Tortoise Takes Police On the Slowest High Speed Chase

A tortoise took police on a high-speed chase or should we say a slow-speed chase. The amphibian escaped from its enclosure at Bradwell Institute, a high school in Hinesville, Ga, over the weekend.

That's when locals reported the tortoise wandering down the road. It didn't take officers long to find the creature. The Hinesville Police Department poked fun at the encounter in a Facebook update.

They wrote, "A little Sunday humor for everyone: Earlier today, Bradwell's resident tortoise decided that with the nice weather it was the perfect day to stage an escape from its enclosure. The adventurous reptile made it a surprising distance before area residents witnessed the great escape and called 911."

The tortoise was very determined to escape. But no one escapes the long arm of the law. Police worked together and managed to lift the very heavy creature into their car. They then returned it to the safety of its enclosure. This time they made sure that the gate was closed.

Tortoise Escape

Police continued, "With a little teamwork (and a lot of muscle ?), D-Watch officers managed to load up the very large, very determined, and ridiculously heavy 'dinosaur' and return him safely to his enclosure. We made sure the gate was secured so our shelled escape artist wouldn't be making another run for it anytime soon... and thanked him for the unexpected workout. Next time we'll make sure to stretch before lifting."

Locals were full of jokes on the whole exchange.

One wrote, "Breaking: D-watch officers successfully end the slowest police chase in town history."

Another wrote, "There's a fine line between having a pet and having a hostage. That there is a hostage."

Yet another wrote, "Maybe he's looking for shredder and the rest of the team?TMNT."

But our favorites have to be these two. One wrote, "He desires greener grass, and sees it on the other side. No matter where he is."

Another wrote, "He looks hella aggravated y'all interrupted his Sunday stroll!"
