A South Carolina church group found themselves stranded in the Middle East amid the Iran War. They were prepared to board a plane to leave Jerusalem. But instead, they wound up in a bomb shelter.
The church group is 40 people large. They are a part of Calvary Chapel Summerville. Their trip to Jerusalem saw some extra excitement when they ended up in a bomb shelter three hours before their flight.
"We were going through security and that's when the war broke out," Pastor Vic Carroll said, according to local outlet WCSC. "The alarms went off, [and] they ushered us all to the bomb shelters."
"The sirens, the alarms are going off back and forth and over and over, and every time we head to the bomb shelter," he continued. "You've only got a few minutes to get there once the alarm goes off and we're hearing the explosions going off over our heads, it's just completely surreal. It's unbelievable."
Church Group Stranded
"The $100,000 is a barrier," Timmerman told WCSC of the mounting costs. "But we trust in God, and people have been very generous already." Fortunately, the fundraiser met its goal, and they are working to get them home.
