When it comes to the OG Disney classic rides, there are always mixed opinions. Some people find them timeless and a park staple, while others find them old and in need of a change. One of the most well-known and oldest rides at Disney's Magic Kingdom is It's A Small World. Say what you want about this ride, but I swear everyone rides it at least once. If you ask my husband, once is all you need, but I think there is a beauty in this ride.
Regardless of your opinion on the ride itself, I think there is something we can all agree on: we don't like black mold. Yup, you know that mold that can cause serious health issues? According to the Cleveland Clinic, exposure to this mold could lead to "sneezing, coughing, congestion, and eye irritation." Additionally, they share that while it rarely causes serious illness or death, it can "worsen asthma symptoms." Naturally, no one wants to be exposed to that.
So imagine everyone's horror when there were multiple accounts of this black mold on Disney World's It's A Small World Ride. The NY Post shared that various users on social media complained about potential black mold on the ride. According to the outlet, the black mold was "on one of the gondola animatronics in the Italy section of the beloved ride in Magic Kingdom." The good news is that Disney seems to have finally taken notice.
The Internet Reacts To Disney's Clean-Up
When it comes to water rides, maintenance is key. Afterall, moist environments are the perfect breeding ground for issues like black mold. However, I am sure that we all expect Disney to be held to a higher standard. It is a magical place after all. One user by the name of Theme Park Cheetah shared their joy over the cleaning of the black mold on X. They shared a video of the gondola in question with the following text: "They finally did it! Disney has cleaned the thick black mold line on this little gondola on It's A Small World."
According to the NY Post, fans were a mix of shocked and disgusted by the black mold problem. Some argued that seeing things like this ruined the magic for them, while others shared that they also noticed the black mold line, and it truly bothered them. Also, many expressed their shock, saying that Disney is usually on top of things, so they were amazed that something like this slipped through the cracks. Finally, some rushed to Disney World's defense, saying that anytime a complaint was made or mold was spotted, Disney rapidly handled the situation.
Disney has yet to publicly comment on the situation.
