A popular cruise line has just announced that in the coming year it will be transitioning to an adults-only line. Rather than facing backlash for this decision, it seems that many of the passengers are in favor of it. Humorously, many people already assumed this particular cruise was adults only.

If you were planning on booking a cruise with the family, I wouldn't go with Oceania Cruises. That is, unless your entire family is 18 years or older. The cruise line recently announced that it is officially going adults only. Oceania is not the only brand making this switch, although they are not doing it to be followers. Instead, they are choosing to prioritize tranquility over providing kid-friendly activities. Luckily for the brand, its clients seem to approve of the decision.
The NY Post shares that " Oceania Cruises, a Miami-based company that operates eight luxury ships sailing across Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia." According to the company, one thing their guests continuously praise is the tranquility aboard the ship. Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises, shared that"By transitioning to an adults-only experience, we are enhancing the very essence of the Oceania Cruises journey — one defined by sophistication, serenity and discovery."
Some Are Surprised, But For A Hilarious Reason
While the overwhelming majority of the cruise line passengers are satisfied with the decision to be exclusively for adults, some were surprised. However, none seemed to be surprised in outrage. Instead, certain individuals were shocked because they assumed that the cruise was already adults-only. Many people believed this mainly because there were so few children aboard this cruise line. The Post shared that "The average Oceania passenger is in their mid-60s." Additionally, when speaking with USA Today, Chief Commercial Officer Nathan Hickman joked that "the extent of kids' programming had been a ping-pong table on the pool deck."
Therefore, I can understand why many people assumed this particular brand was already 18 years old or older. If you were unaware of this change and booked your trip prior to Jan. 7, 2026, have no fear, you and your guests under 18 will still be permitted to set sail. All bookings after that date, however, will be adults only. Furthermore, the brand ensures the differentiation between Oceania and its luxury line sister, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, which is still welcoming guests under 18.
