A vacation ended in a bit of tragedy after a 71-year-old man became sick. He thought he had a stomach bug, but later learned he had late-stage pancreatic cancer.
He died just a few weeks after returning home from his hiking trip. 71-year-old David Bain and his wife, Tacey Bain, had been hiking the Camino de Santiago in Europe. Speaking with BBC, Tacey explained that her husband started having stomach issues during the trip. Although they thought it might be a stomach bug, his condition continued to worsen.
Things got so bad that the couple had to call off their trip early. They flew back to the U.K., where David saw a doctor. Sadly, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on his return to the country.
"You don't get any warning, and you have to make the most of whatever time you have got," Tacy told the BBC. "We can't do anything, you can't go home, and we are looking for a hospice bed. Then he died a fortnight later."

The British man spent five days at St Peter's Hospice in Bristol before passing away. "The effect of the painkillers, medication and the disease was such that we had to stop all visitors," she said.
