3 Kinds of Trucks You'll See in Texas

If the South had a flag with an emblem, a silhouette of a truck would probably be its centerpiece. With hits such as "Texas Editions" by Chevy and Ford honoring its most passionate trucking fans, the South holds a special place in their heart.

Without further adieu, here are three kinds of trucks you'll see in the South (including one exclusive).

Ford F-150

Ford

Based on new car registrations in 2016, the F-150 is the best selling truck in more than 10 southern states. Long the pickup leader, its turbocharged engine choices, nimbler ride vs. competing trucks, top safety ratings, and its top trim's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter engine could hail up to 12,200 of cargo in the rockiest terrain. It's only second to the Chevrolet Silverado in total weight capacity.

Plus, the F-150 wins with safety, awarded a 5 out of 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with top Insurance Institute for Highway Safety scores.

Interestingly, Ford released its own Texas Edition vehicle for the 2013 model year, decked out with chrome bar-style grilles, door handles, and exhaust tips along with a Texas Edition badge. It's among the nicest-looking trucks you'll see in Texas.

According to Edmunds.com, Texas is home to out of every five pickup trucks sold in the country. As a result, many full-size pickup truck manufacturers have honored Texas with its own Texas Editions such as 2013 Ram 1500 Lone Star.

The 2013 Ram 1500 Lone Star Edition sports a Hemo 5.7-liter V-8 engine, six-speed automatic, and 20-inch wheels with a 'Lone Star 10th Anniversary logo emblazoned on the dash and floor mats.

2018 Ram Laramie Longhorn Southfork Edition

Although not technically a favorite Texas truck statistically due to its impending release, the 2018 Ram Laramie Longhorn honors all of Texas with an upgraded interior over the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500.

This badge introduces various seating options, leather-wrapped pillars, walnut trim, and red stitching for an Old Western style look. Engine options include a 5.7-liter V8 and a 6.4-liter turbodiesel V8 running on 383 horsepower and 410 horsepower.

Look for the 2018 Ram Laramie Longhorn Southfork Edition to go on sale in Texas only by the end of the year.
