What the Heck Did This Guy Just Catch?

Here’s a neat fish sometimes caught in Florida that’s as good for bait as it is stunning to look at.

This will be easy for many southern anglers, but this fish of the Trichiuridae family is caught from Florida to Texas.

They’re generally steely blue-to-silver in color and look like similar to an eel. Read on for the rest of the story, but first, here’s the video:

Commonly referred to as a ribbonfish, a scabbardfish or a hairtail, this is an Atlantic cutlassfish.

One thing they’re really good for is bait! These fish can help anglers catch anything from kingfish and swordfish to wahoo and tarpon.

We’d like to thank angler Eric Brandon for sharing his video and getting the conversation started!
