Wide Open Spaces "Shot of the Week"

Moose Hunting in the Yukon

It's not every day you get such a great perspective on moose hunting in the Yukon, but the latest Wide Open Spaces "Shot of the Week" highlights the stunning scenery, the thrill of the shot, and one hell of a trophy.

Sent in from Wide Open Spaces reader Phillip Halliday, the video below shares the scene. Halliday was guided by Tuchodi River Outfitters, covering ground on horseback, and scouted out this giant specimen on the first day of a 12-day hunt.

Watch below as Halliday lines up his shot and gains the full realization that, yes, he had just shot a moose:

Location: Northern British Columbia

Hunt company: Tuchodi River Outfitters

Game: Yukon Moose

Bow: Bowtech Insanity, 65 pound draw weight

Arrow: Wac'em 3 blade 100 grain Triton

Interesting Fact: Halliday exploded his first bow two days before his trip, and was forced into purchasing a brand new one the day before. He finished sighting it at 4:00 am in his backyard before leaving for the airport at 6:00 am.
