Franklin Township police and firemen come to the rescue of a deer that found its way to the bottom of an abandoned well.
The Franklin Township Police Department in Somerset, New Jersey received an 911 call the afternoon of June 17 regarding a deer that found itself trapped in an abandoned well. Firefighters, police officers, and animal control officers utilized ropes and snares to retrieve the deer and facilitate its release.
“What’s that Lassie? There’s something in the well??”
Whoo! Did that guy want out of that well, or what! That poor deer exploded out of the well.
Following the 45-minute rescue operation and slippery escape, the doe was last seen retreating to an adjacent wooded area. Officials noted the deer most likely gained access to the well by inadvertently breaking through a covering.
The well has since been secured with a new covering to avoid this or any additional mishaps in the future.
