While some of the footage may raise an eyebrow, it is nonetheless a treat to see the legendary archer in action.
Howard Hill is one of the greatest icons in the history of archery. Hill hunted game all over the world, taking an astonishing 2,000-odd animals with his traditional longbow.
In this grainy 1951 film Hill stalks and kills a large African bull elephant, a man-killer known as Tembo.
Certain aspects of the film are curious to the point of humor, such as Tembo's looped death cries that sound more like the roars of the original 1950s Godzilla.
But regardless of the obvious production shortcomings, seeing Hill in the field and shooting his longbow is something special.
This short clip is the bookend piece to another clip from the same film, "Tembo," in which Hill stalks and kills a marauding lion. Watch that video here.
