Watch This Crazy PMAG Gen 3 Stress Test

Magpul’s AK platform accessories are known as reliable, but this is ridiculous.

Watch as this guy goes through some serious stress tests with his Magul PMAG magazine.

Who knew the AK magazine can hold the body weight of an average solider doing pull-ups? Although this is not the intended use for the magazine, the stamped metal accessories are known for their structural reliability and would also hold up under a potential mishap should the soldier need to pull himself up in an unusual circumstance.

In the second test, Russian Pushups are performed with the magazine inserted. Again, this solely tests the structural strength of the magazine, as a steel magazine would be able to withstand the added strain and still be able to fire and feed accordingly. This test also adds stress to the magazine well where the box mag is inserted. Proper feeding and operation of the magazine should still be able to be performed, as a steel mag would not be bent or warped in any manner.

Likewise, after being dropped to the ground, the magazine should be able to withstand sudden shock. The Magpul PMAG handled the test just fine.

PMAGs are made of lightweight polymer, and they save seven ounces on the total fully loaded weight of a steel magazine (Check out the weight comparison here). Considering that operators are usually trying to save as much weight as possible, this could be multiplied by however many magazines their combat load is. If it’s an American infantry man, an average of six magazines is the standard minimum load out. That could be a potential savings of about 42 oz, or 2.62 pounds in just the weight of a magazine alone.

Solid structure and weight savings are two very valid reasons to be considering adding Magpul PMAGs to your weapons outfit.
