Vets on Ice Introduces Folks to the Outdoors in Colorado

CBS Denver

Colorado non-profit organizations are seeking to serve veterans and their families.

Vets On Ice, a free ice fishing event for all veterans as well as active-duty military members and their families, is put on by Patriot Anglers, Just One Day, Golden VFW Post 4171, Born To Fish Media and the Evergreen Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The event seeks to “provide a day of relaxation through fishing, build camaraderie, and provide a first rate experience for our veterans.”

The third annual event will take place on Jan. 31st at Evergreen Lake, just a few miles west of Denver. The event’s hosts and sponsors are asking those interested in contributing to donate ice fishing equipment, such as rods, reels, ice fishing tackle, or monetary donations to cover the purchase of such items.

The goal for this year’s event is to host 200 people, and the event is open to all veterans and active military service members and their families.

“We believe that time spent in outdoor recreation can change the life outlook of troubled veterans as well as provide a quality family bonding experience,” says the Just One Day group.
