Authorities alerted after photos of bear feeding go viral on social media.
One family is finding out why it's never a good idea to feed the bears. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has handed out a court appearance citation to a family that fed a bear cub near a rental cabin in Gatlinburg.
The TWRA was alerted to the incident when someone saw the photos they posted on Facebook and complained to the company that owns the home. Their interactions with the cub have resulted in wildlife officials trapping and attempting to relocating it.
"They need to stop and realize what they're doing," fellow park visitor Andy Hentz told reporters. "Yes, it's cute. But if they want to get up close to bears, they should go to a zoo."
It may have been the cub's lucky day because authorities say usual policy is to kill bears that become too accustomed to humans. It's being reported guests on the rental property are given warnings against interacting with the bears. However, it is not known if the people at the rental cabin got these warnings.
