Who doesn’t want camera notifications sent to our phone? More importantly, who doesn’t want to pay very much?
Well, let me introduce you to the Blink line of home cameras. Soon, with Blink XT for outdoor use, you can put one at your tree stand and get videos of that buck you’ve been hunting. You might even be able to show it to your boss in real time and justify taking the rest of the day off.
So, first off, what is this Blink Camera? For $99, you can get a camera (indoor camera) and the sync module. The camera has a Lithium Ion battery, so you can have about 2 years of battery life. You can arm it to have an instant-on with motion detection that will send alerts to your phone. You can also access the live feed from the app on your phone, even if you don’t get an alert. Those videos and alerts that you get notifications for? Yeah, blink will store them for you; up to two hours worth of 5-second videos at your disposal. Now, for the trail camera uses, it does have low light illumination and infrared. Just stick it in the desired location and link it to the sync base.
There are a couple of caveats to this technology. First, the Blink XT is not quite available yet, but it is up for pre-order. Blink is also offering some deals if you pre-order their XT camera with the purchase of an indoor camera.
The biggest catch is that it requires WiFi. This is a big one and definitely limits a lot of uses. If you are someone who likes a camera in your backyard or if you have WiFi at one of your tree stands for the small property owners, this is perfect. I know I have one location that I have picked for an XT.
