This Southern Belle Catfish Noodles with the Best of Them

Catfish noodling is not for the faint of heart. Watch as Hannah Barron schools us all!

Noodling is a method of fishing for catfish using only bare hands, practiced primarily in the southern United States. By placing your hand inside a found catfish hole, a catfish will hopefully swim toward you and latch on to your hand and arm – both as a defensive maneuver and a means of escape. If all goes as planned, you then wrestle the feisty fish to the surface.

Hannah Barron definitely knows how to noodle. Having participated in the sport for the last four years, this south Alabama girl shows us all how it’s done in this awesome video clip.

Awesome, right? And for those that think noodling is easy, here’s something to ponder. Due to concerns over the safety of noodlers and sustainability of fish populations, the technique is illegal in some states where it was once traditionally practiced. It can definitely be a dangerous sport to participate in.

A tip of our fishing cap to you, Hannah. You make it look so easy – and pretty darn fun!
