Portion of proceeds from pistol sales to go to Chris Kyle Frog Foundation.
Late U.S. Navy Seal legend Chris Kyle may have been best known for his exploits with his sniper rifle, but he was also proficient with many other firearms. And now, Springfield Armory is releasing the limited-edition Chris Kyle Legends Series 1911 TRP.
The tribute pistol is a part of Springfield Armory’s Legend Series of pistols and is being made in partnership with Kyle’s family, the Chris Kyle Foundation. A portion of the sales are slated to help the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation. The foundation works to support and help the families of military personnel and first responders.
Kyle used the Springfield TRP in many combat situations and even credited one with saving his life in an unexpected way once. “In 2004, I bought a Springfield TRP Operator, which used a .45 caliber round. It had a 1911 body style, with custom grips and a rail system that let me add a light and laser combo. Black, it had a bull barrel and was an excellent gun – until it took a frag for me in Fallajuh. I was actually able to get it repaired – those Sprinfields are tough,” Kyle wrote in his book, American Sniper.
It’s a sweet-looking handgun, but it won’t be easy to get your hands on one. Only 1,000 are being made and will be individually numbered with serial numbers CK0001 through CK1000. Pistol #1 is being auctioned off and bidding is already underway. The auction started online on Gunbroker.com and is slated to continue until the NRA’s annual meetings in Louisville, Kentucky.
In case you’re wondering, the price is up over $17,000 already for that pistol with twelve days to go as of this writing. You will also be able to make bids at the meeting and if the winner is present, Kyle’s widow, Taya will be there to present the winning bid with the pistol.
For pistol #1, the full auction proceeds are going to the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation.
Each of the pistols sold will also come with a cool display case and commemorative coin from the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation. Also included is a copy of Kyle’s book American Sniper, autographed by Taya Kyle.
Dealers will be able to order the remaining pistols from Springfield Armory distributors starting May 22. If you really want one, be prepared to spend a little. The MSRP is $2,495.
