Shooting the IDPA Classifier [VIDEO]

What's the next step after shooting a match or two for the International Defensive Pistol Association? Shoot a classifier!

You shot a match or two in IDPA? Great! You should shoot a classifier match next. A classifier ranks you within your division to measure your scores against other people at a similar skill level. The five IDPA classifications include Novice, Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert, and Master. Your final classifier score will determine your classification.

A classifier match has three stages with a total of 90 rounds. Here, the crew from Panteao Productions demonstrate the IDPA Classifier.

The IDPA Classifier is pretty easy and fun. A shooter runs it without a concealment garment, and there are breaks between strings to focus.

This is also a great way to practice. If you have the ability and the area to do it, the classifier is a great way to practice target transitions, movement, shooting from cover, and reloads. Many people use this is a way to benchmark their progress. You should try it too!
