Tourists and hotel staff in Dominican Republic kill blue shark for the sake of vain selfies.

One less blue shark is swimming off the coast of the Dominican Republic, due to a number of tourists and hotel staff that decided to drag one up on the beach and pose with it for disgusting selfies.

In the disturbing video - shot by a tourist - seven men are seen wrestling the thrashing shark in the surf, laughing gleefully as they attempt to drag it up on the shore. At one point they use a life ring to keep the shark's mouth closed as well as place a piece of wood in it's jaws.

This footage is upsetting and may not be suitable for young viewers.

The blue shark is slowly tortured, eventually suffocating after being left on the beach - tied up - and under the heat of the scorching sun.

A number of lifeguards and staff were reportedly employed by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana. Hard Rock Hotel said it will take "appropriate action" against those involved and that it is "absolutely against our standards of protecting animals as we protect our guests."

This latest incident comes on the heels of other highly publicized cases around the world, were the life of an animal is being forsaken solely for the purpose of taking a selfie. Certainly a sick trend that needs to stop.
