Russian Couple Shares Home with 7-Foot, 300-Pound Bear that Loves Hugs

Daily Mail

This story is bear-ly believable!

Most people who own a pet want a cat or a few dogs. But this Russian couple's pet could eat your pets. Literally!

That's because Svetlana and Yuriy Panteleenko share their Russian home with a 7-foot tall, 300 pound bear named Stepan. No, really, it even joins them at the table at dinner time! Check it out.

How crazy is that? You might be wondering exactly how this Russian couple end up with a 300 pound wild beast living them and why he's so friendly and cuddly. It turns out the animal ended up so domesticated because he's been owned by the Panteleekos since he was just a cub.

"When we adopted him, he was only three-months old and had been found by hunters in the forest having lost his mother," Svetlana told the Daily Mail. "He was in very bad condition."

Now 23, Stepan still acts like a big kid.

"He's got so many talents and loves a picnic," Svetlana told the Daily Mail. "It's a wonder he doesn't eat us out of house and home." We're wondering how he doesn't either, considering the bear eats a whopping 55 pounds of food a day!

No doubt you're wondering about the dangers of living with a 300 pound wild animal. The couple says Stepan is extremely sociable and has never bitten a person. In fact, it seems this bruin acts more like a dog than a bear. He likes to play ball in the yard and help with the gardening. And in the evenings, he enjoys spending his time with his owners.

"Stepan likes nothing more than to cuddle up with us on the sofa at night while we're watching television," Svetlana said.

Crazy right? Still, you have to admit, he really is cuddly-looking. Who wouldn't want to pet and give this bear a big hug? Would you let a huge bear live with you in your home?
