This is a great example as to why we refer to orcas as killer whales.
An epic sight was caught on camera off the coast of Monterey, California as a pod of orcas set their sights on a pod of what seems like thousands of dolphin!
You can tell the videographer is in shock by what he is seeing. As the first orca attacks you can see a large splash in the distance. After the first attack all mayhem breaks loose as the pod of dolphin begin to rush to safety.
Believe it or not, preying on dolphin is typical orca behavior; however, it is rarely caught on film. The fact this event involved so many animals is also worth mentioning.
While dolphin have often been documented traveling in the pods numbering well into the thousands, rarely are they filmed fleeing an attack like this.
