An Old Flintlock Gun Was Once Discovered Inside a Milled Tree in Australia

This extraordinary find has folks pondering its history.

We can only imagine the utter dismay when saw blades met metal while someone was milling this tree. We can only imagine the bewilderment when they saw what was hiding inside the trunk.

The discovery of an old flintlock gun hidden inside the confines of a tree has produced all kinds of theories, the most popular being that the gun was left in a fork and the tree grew completely around it over time.

According to the Facebook page North Oz Adventures, someone was milling the tree on Cape York, Australia, which is located on the most northern point of the island.

We have all sorts of questions about this. Who left that rifle behind? How long was it there before a tree grew around it? Why was it left behind? Those will all have to remain unsolved mysteries we suppose. It sure gets the gears of one's imagination going though. In a posted comment, the admins of the page stated they were aware of the identity of the man who discovered it, but added that he would like to remain anonymous. We also wonder what happened to the gun's barrel and stock end.

Just imagine the fascinating tales that tree could tell. One thing's for certain: that's one cool conversation piece to have in your collection.
