New YETI Roadie 24 Cooler is Lighter, Holds More, and Outperforms the Old One

YETI has debuted the new Roadie 24, an updated version of their already-famous scaled down cooler.

It was back in 2008 when the founders of YETI brought the original Tundra to the market, and changed the way people view coolers. The rotomolded ice chest, formulated out of frustration with the cheap, non-durable stuff you'd find those days, birthed a revolution. Now, any cooler company worth their weight borrows from or is heavily influenced by the things YETI started.

Which is why the company knew they'd have to advance and innovate at a higher rate than anyone else, and stay relevant in the outdoor retail landscape. They've chosen to do so with a strong contingency of additional products, but they've also debuted their new take on the Tundra's little brother, the Roadie 24.

It's new coolers like these that remind us YETI is at the top of the game.

Introducing the YETI Roadie 24

YETI Roadie 24

Taking a cue from the YETI Roadie 20 cooler, the designers at the Austin, Texas company took their smaller-scaled cooler concept and stretched it taller, lightened the overall weight, and packed it with even more ice-saving performance than the original.

Numbers-wise, the Roadie 24 holds 20% more and retains ice 30% longer than the older Roadie model, and its dimensions (16 1/2" long by 14 1/2" wide by 17 1/2" high) help it fit nicely on the floor behind a driver's or passenger's seat in just about any vehicle.

Inside the cooler, the interior dimensions (12 1/2" long by 13 1/4" wide by ?— 10 7/8" high) are big enough to hold 18 cans (with a 2 to 1 ice to can ratio) or 24 pounds of ice on its own. The Roadie 24 comes in four colors: Desert Tan, Charcoal, Navy Blue, and the classic YETI White.

The flexible Quicklatch is one-hand operated and epitomized "easy entry," while the new Heftyhauler handle vastly outperforms that annoyingly stiff metal bar on the old Roadies. It has tie-down slots, like any good cooler should, and uses the Neverfail hinge system that's helped the brand avoid snapping or breaking on all their new-generation coolers.

Theres no drain plug, but the empty weight of 12.8 ounces makes it super easy to flip and get rid of any ice or water. It looks as though there's a Seat Cushion and Dry Goods Basket available separately, to use with the YETI Roadie 24.

The taller height is now the perfect size to carry an upright wine bottle or 2-liter, something cooler users have definitely asked for over the years. In fact, there were lots of things customers mentioned over the years about the Roadie, like the aforementioned metal bar carrying handle, the restrictive dimensions, and the fact that it was a little heavy considering its size.

YETI coolers have always answered the call, from their soft-sided Hopper and Hopper Flip to their range of sizes and colors in the Rambler and Tumbler stainless steel drinkware lines, yet it's the hard cooler technology that's really helped open the eyes of consumers.

With fantastic ice retention, durability in spades, plus the limited warranty that covers YETI products, a Roadie 24 appears to be a no-brainer for the adventurous type. Toss it on a kayak or stick it in the backseat on one of your next road trips, and it'll be tough to miss the advantages of a Roadie cooler.
