2022 is shaping up to be a great year to haul in some new turkey hunting gear.
Spring will be here before you know it, and thousands of hunters across the country will be headed into the turkey woods.
We all have our favorite turkey hunting items, but maybe it is time to reload with some new gear and get ahead of the competition. If so, here is some new turkey hunting gear worth your attention in 2022, from some familiar names in the outdoor industry.
Any of these would be worthy additions to your turkey hunting arsenal of decoys, calls, and vests, and they were picked based on the buzz they've already started making among the nation's most dedicated turkey hunting diehards.
Turkey Hunting Decoys
Heavy-Duty Realism is an appropriate name for this new line of decoys. Avian-X tweaks and improves them every year ensuring that the 2022 HDR Series will be the best we've seen yet. The realistic features and attention to detail on these dekes are hard to compete with. Coming in feeder hen and strutter Tom models, the HDR series will allow you to finish out your realistic flock.
Dakota Decoy Company is no stranger to carving and producing some of the most effective decoys on the market. Well-known for their waterfowl line, Dakota has delivered with the X-Treme series, which includes jake and hen models. The new X-Treme Flocked Back Jake seems to be the staple in the series and is a sure thing to add some realism to your flock.
When it comes to pot calls, it is hard to argue with the lineup from Woodhaven. And their newest addition, The Ninja Crystal, is right on par with its predecessors. Being only the second crystal call in their line up, it is capable of producing great two-tone yelps and can sharpen and soften to create good cackles, cuts, and purrs. You can never go wrong with a pot call from Woodhaven Custom Calls.
The Heartbreaker was at one time the most popular box call in the Primos line. After being discontinued it's now revived for 2022 and in my mind is sure to climb back to the top. This two-sided box call provides sweet tones and unbelievable sharpness and accuracy. It is a good choice for the beginner caller all the way to the seasoned woodsman. Also, the engraved finish is spectacular and looks great riding in your turkey vest.
If you are looking for a new diaphragm call, Woodhaven Custom Calls is bound to have one in their lineup for you. New this year, the Hammer Tooth, Hammer T, and Modified Cutter all promise easy blowing and great tones ranging from loud yelping all the way down to the quietest clucks and purrs. Two or three Woodhaven diaphragm calls in your pocket could be the ticket for success this season.
It's still a relatively new call company (it was founded in 2012), but Houndstooth has cranked out some of the easiest-blowing, most efficient diaphragm calls of the last several years. Adding the newest call, the Sawbriar V-Cut, to an already-deadly line of calls demonstrates Houndstooth Calls' versatility. Also check out the Ace, KB hen, and Tom Bomb series to add an array of tones to your call collection this spring.
Said to be designed by Will Primos himself, this new product is as hunter-friendly as a turkey vest can get. It's lightweight and made from polyester so it's a comfortable wear all day long. This vest has no shortage of pockets either, ensuring there will be plenty of storage for calls, gloves, masks, and more. The vest is finished out with a Mossy Oak Bottomland pattern giving it a sleek look with a quality, all situations camouflage.
The newest vest in Ol' Tom's line is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The gunslinger-style straps are great for comfort and distributing vest weight to ensure a good fit. The vest's organization is top notch as well, with plenty of pockets for storage without being too overly complicated or gaudy. The vest also comes in a variety of camo patterns. Ol' Tom seems to have hit it out of the park with this new quality turkey vest.
There is no shortage of great turkey hunting products out there and for all different kinds of hunters, too. If you've been hanging on to the same old calls and same old decoys for the last several years, 2022 would be a great time to restock on your tools.
Whether you are a gear head or a complete hunting minimalist, trying out new gear and new calls will only add to your capabilities and skill set, making you a better hunter for it.
