Mulled Cider Moonshine Recipe

Tatiana Whitlock

What better way take off the autumn chill than with a steaming mug of mulled cider moonshine?

Where apple pie moonshine is sweet, mulled cider moonshine is savory. A perfect blend of cider, citrus and spices, this seasonal drink is just as good with or without the rum. Reserve some of the steeped cider before adding alcohol so the little ones can have a mug-full too!

Comfort in a Cup

Slice the oranges and lemon and set aside.

Open your cheesecloth and lay it flat. You may need to cut it down to roughly 12” x 12” square. Place the cinnamon, cloves and allspice berries in the center and gather the edges to make a pouch. Tie the pouch closed with the string like a big tea bag.

Pour the cider into the stockpot and add the sliced fruit and spice pouch and bring to a boil.

When the pot has reached a good rolling boil reduce the heat to a simmer, cover and allow to cook for 45 minutes. Your house will smell amazing!

When the time is up, remove the pot from the heat and add the rum. Cover and allow to steep for up to four more hours.

Remove the spices and fruit and strain out any pulp.

Fill the sterilized mason jars with the cider and drop in a stick of cinnamon. Seal for long-term storage.

Serve piping hot with a cinnamon stick in your favorite mug!
