Oh, those pesky mosquitoes make fishing and barbecues quite an itchy proposition.
There can't be anywhere worse for mosquitoes than your neck of the woods right?
Take a spring or summer trip to the Arctic and experience mosquitoes on an epic scale.
High up in the Arctic would be the last place you would think mosquitoes swarm. Isn't it really cold and frozen? Not in the springtime.
When the Arctic ice and snow melt, it leaves flooded lands. These flooded lands are a haven for huge, blood-sucking swarms of mosquitoes. The infestations are so bad they influence large caribou migrations. These animals head to colder areas to try to shake their tiny tormentors.
So next time that mosquito nails you at your favorite fishing hole, be very thankful. You could be in the Arctic with all those swarms instead.
