Memphis Reopens Vacant Pyramid for New Bass Pro Shops

This weekend is the grand opening for the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid.

After over eleven years of sitting vacant, The Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee has finally found a purpose that is exciting all outdoor enthusiasts. The new Bass Pro Shops store, which officially opened on April 29, 2015, is coming to life in the Memphis landmark and everyone is eager to get inside.

The project was first discussed back in 2005. In 2010, Bass Pro Shops and the city agreed on a 55-year lease agreement and began a four-year construction process that transformed this abandoned 535,000-square foot pyramid into a unique experience for new and loyal customers. Bass Pro Shops confirmed on opening day that over 600 positions have been filled to help ensure that the expected 2 million visitors per year are attended to with the highest level of customer service. Their goal is to make this newest development the top retail destination in the state of Tennessee.

Aside from the tens of thousands of hunting, fishing, and camping items for sale, customers and tourists can do just about anything from exploring a man-made swamp filled with live alligators, fish, and ducks to bowling in an ocean-themed alley. In addition, a hunting lodge-inspired hotel is available for guests who want to get the most out of their experience. The hotel suites include balconies that overlook the swamp, which is also surrounded by various retail selections.

Bass Pro's grand opening, held on Wednesday, April 29, was centered around An Evening For Conservation. 50% off the proceeds went to support conservation groups in the Mid-South. Though the official grand opening ceremony was on Wednesday, the store will be continuing their grand opening celebration through the weekend with grand prizes, giveaway, interactive displays, and live music.

David Hagel, general manager of the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid, describes this specific location as an experience like no other. Not many retail stores have over thirty floors and an elevator that takes you to an observation deck that has a restaurant and bar with a panoramic view of the city.

"If you can't be happy to see something like this, then you don't have a pulse," Hagel said. "We're more than retail."
