A Soldier stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, managed to tag this monster Veterans Day buck on November 11. Check out the size of that thing!
Russell Wyatt, an infantryman stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, was hunting on the 182,000 acre installation on November 11 when he shot this incredible Veterans Day buck: a 158 5/8" 10-point brute.
While Russell is an avid hunter, his work schedule does not permit him to get out into the woods very often. Fortunately for him, he had some time on Veterans Day to sneak out to the woods. Early that morning he passed on a small 8-point buck.
Later that day, he was seconds away from shooting a doe when he happened to look over his shoulder. Good thing he did because that's when he saw that monster buck coming in. Russell was shocked at the size of the deer, but recovered quickly.
A single shot from Russell's Mossberg 930 shotgun at just under 70 yards put the massive buck down for good.
According to Russell:
All deer on Fort Benning must be checked out. So I took it to the wildlife conservation officer here, and he starts freaking out. He said, 'Holy cow! That's a monster!' And everybody wanted pictures and everything, and that's when it really sunk in.
The buck is a main-frame 10-pointer and has a split on the right G2. After 60 days pass, the buck may be officially scored and, if it still scores over 152 5/8", it could very well end up being the new Chattahoochee County record.
Congratulations on the incredible Veterans Day buck, Russell!
