King-Sized Hybrid Bluegill Proves to Be a Real Handful

There is nothing quite like a big bluegill.

In the world of fishing there is something special about catching a truly giant bluegill. These fish are an iconic species and for many people, they are the first fish they ever caught. Anyone can catch one of these popular eating fish. Catching an abnormally large specimen takes a little more time, patience, and effort.

YouTuber Ty PigPatrol has been putting out some truly epic panfishing videos lately that are making us fall in love with fishing for bluegill and sunfish all over again. He has found several hidden hotspots that are just loaded with monster-sized panfish that dreams are made of.

In today's video he lands several large bluegills and redear sunfish before hooking into a massive bluegill hybrid you must see to believe. This is the kind of fish most anglers only dream of landing one day. You know a bluegill is huge when you almost lip it!

This guy never disappoints with his fishing videos. What you see is what you get. He has caught some true giants this year. Just a few months ago he was fishing Lake Havasu, and while he was there, he caught some of the largest redear sunfish we have ever seen captured on camera.

If you have never had the chance to fish for hybrid bluegills like the one at the end of the video, you are truly missing out. Sure, they may not be a pure bluegill, but they grow to spectacular sizes, have beautiful colors, and they fight better than most other panfish. Especially if you go after them using ultralight tackle. Some of the hybrids give bass a run for their money in the fight department in my opinion.

It just goes to show that no matter how long you have been fishing, catching huge panfish never gets old. We are ready to head out to our favorite local lake with a box of nightcrawlers and an ultralight setup again after watching this one!
