Swordfish are great eating so do you keep them all or release them to swim again? Where do you stand?
I’ve said it many times, if you have the proper license, the season is open, and it’s the right size and limit: it’s yours to keep. The regulations are there for everyone to follow.
Since this is a sport fishing video and not a commercial fishing vessel folks will certainly take sides. Maybe the problem is that most don’t get to see the effort it takes to put a monster swordfish in the boat.
Other fishermen will say that it’s much easier to tag it and then release it.
First of all that’s a beautiful fish! Secondly, it’s definitely not getting released. That fish will be a bunch of dinners for some lucky diners because swordfish are some seriously good eating.
Since most sport fishing guides tag and release fish like this some will be angry that it’s not still swimming. In any event, each and release fishing is the beginning of the reason why many fisheries everywhere have kept stable and even growing populations.
And with that in mind, there’s the best reason of all to keep and eat some small portion of our favorite gamefish!
