Texans, rejoice! The Bassmaster Classic is headed your way in 2017.
The 2017 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by GoPro will finally be held in Houston for the first time ever. The event has been going on for 47 years, and will continue its 48th year on Lake Conroe.
An impoundment of the San Jacinto River, Lake Conroe is 21,000 acres and is famous for producing notable largemouth bass. B.A.S.S. CEO announced that "of the 50,000 members of B.A.S.S. worldwide, nearly 45,000 - more than any other state - call Texas home. We're glad to be able to hold the Classic near them."
What comes with the tournament is also a wealth of information about angling. During Bassmaster Classic Week in Houston, the Bassmaster Classic Outdoor Expo will also be held from March 24-26. "The 2017 Expo will cover more than 300,000 square feet, the largest in history," which makes sense because everything is bigger in Texas.
The last time the event was sort of held in Texas was 1979 on Lake Texoma, on the border of Texas and Oklahoma. However, the Toyota Texas Bass Classic was held on Lake Conroe from 2009-2013.
The Bassmaster Classic will give away $300,000 to the champion and the city of Houston should see a real boost as other host cities have reported up to $24 million in economic impact from the event.
