Her Humble Hunt: Q&A With Bianca Jane Burnett

Bianca Jane Burnett, creator of the popular blog and Instagram account Her Humble Hunt, is all about hunting. She spends the majority of her free time either hunting, practicing, or preparing for hunting. Luckily, her growing family is recognizing how important the great outdoors are to Burnett, and following suit. The busy mom of two is sure to make opportunities for her kids to learn about and participate in hunting, too.

"My kids are totally into it," she said. "I try to get them involved as much as possible."

She is a first generation and self-taught hunter, and her interest started early. Her idea of fun as a kid was to spend all day exploring the woods with a sharpened stick spear she whittled from a treebranch.

"In the summertime I would be gone all day until the sun went down," she said. "We had hundreds of acres of land and I was just exploring. I would play hunter. That was my thing. I didn't play kitchen or mommy. I liked to be a hunter gatherer."

She has come a long way since those early days, but she still likes to spend her days in the woods.

"If I have a day off and I don't have anything I have to do, I'm going to be in the woods," she said. "Even though the deer season and turkey season is only so long, it is a full year thing. We prep, we watch. I'm always in the woods. It is the only place I want to go."

Her Many Hunting Accomplishments

Burnett has hunted moose, turkey, alligator, and more.

"If it is in season and it's legal, I will hunt it," she said. "I'm game for anything."

A quick scroll of her Instagram page proves those words true. She dabbles in all kinds of hunting - and loves it all - but her favorite, she said, is whitetail deer hunting with a bow. She also loved the intensity of alligator hunting. The challenge of bowhunting, and the challenge of hunting in general, is part of what draws her to it. Another part is the camaraderie.

"Since I started hunting, I've had countless fails, moments of success, and memories of laughter that I value dearly in my life," Burnett said. "The community of people who hunt is unique in so many ways, I'm happy to have a place in it."

Mentoring Others

Introducing others to hunting is important to Burnett. Recently she has encouraged three women she knows to get their hunting licenses and they are planning to start this year.

"I'm a huge advocate for bringing back the tradition of hunting," she said. "I love helping other women who are interested in hunting, and men too. It is important to me to pass on what I know. There are a lot of people just like me that don't have someone to learn from or to go with. I try to be that go-between person if anybody is ever interested in hunting."
