The Fish & Chips Fishing and Poker Tournament is going down June 27, 2014, and if you’re up for a good time, check out this awesome event.
The eighth annual tournament is being held out of the Van Wormer Resorts Hotel Palmas de Cortez in East Cape, Mexico, on the Baja Peninsula, and it’s the kind of gathering that brings like-minded people together for fun, fishing and the chance to bank a lot of prize money.
Teams of up to five are invited to register for one fee that enters them into the fishing and poker tournament. The angling gets going with a shotgun start on Friday morning.

Tournament co-founders Vince and Jason are excited to be preparing for another Fish & Chips Tournament, and are eager to show the some 200 anglers and guests a good time, as always.
“This tournament has been going on for eight years,” said Vince, “and it’s kind of like a man’s paradise, so to speak. What it is, is a fishing tournament, a poker tournament and a bikini contest. It is a family event, but at the same time, it’s more for the fisherman who likes to get away from the wife, go and talk shop with the boys, fish in the tournament one day, and see some super hot girls that we fly in from all over the place.”
Participants typically arrive in Mexico on the Thursday before the event, and the rules are gone over ahead of time. Lots of side pots and prize opportunities are up for grabs, with a range of money amounts.
If a team enters the “Clean Sweep” category, and they catch the biggest tuna, biggest dorado and their captain wins the poker tournament, that cool $50,000 is theirs.

And of course, the tournament boasts some monster catches every year.
“It’s one of the top five places in the world to go deep sea fishing,” Vince said about East Cape, “and it’s a really well put together tournament.”
People from all over the US and beyond attend the tournament, and the entire hotel resort is booked for participants. Those who have joined in on the festivities in the past have always gone home happy.
“A the end of the trip, everyone’s like, ‘I can’t wait for next year,’” Vince said.
