Captain Al Keller is one of the most recognized and well respected fly fishing guides on the Gulf. Keller leads NOLA Guides, a team of fly fishing guides that operate in the marshes around New Orleans from fall through early spring. When the weather warms up, Keller heads to his home state of Florida to guide. He’s also endorsed by Cheeky Reels. If there was ever a fly guide who knew how and where to catch reds down south, it’s Capt. Keller. That’s why he’s our Fishing Guide of the Week.

Where do you guide and what do you fish for?

I guide in Louisiana from September thru March out of Venice and Hopedale. Guide in Florida from April thru July out of 10,000 island E.N.P. and Carabelle

What kind of boat and fishing equipment do you use?

I use a 17-foot Maverick and fish all artificial and fly.

What’s your favorite aspect of guiding?

Watching anglers catch the largest fish they ever have on fly.

In one sentence, what’s your philosophy on fishing and life?

Enjoy the day you have, never know when it ends.
