You may have never seen wings on a fox, but you’ll be surprised to see that they can truly fly when they want to.
When you’re hungry and the mouse you want for lunch is hiding under the snow, then you had better be prepared to dig.
These foxes, on the other hand, have learned that if they jump first and then land head first into the snow they’ll catch mice even easier.
The only problem is that they just might catch a rock in face.
Foxes are well known to have hyper sensitive hearing and can ascertain the position of a mouse or other small rodent under the snow to within inches of their position. Setting it to some nice music is ok, but I’d rather see it in person.
I was fortunate enough to watch a mother and yearling kits perform this ballet one winter a few years back. It’s an amazing sight to behold, even more amazing when you see one of them come out of the snow with a mouse to munch!
