If you want to grow an awesome beard, go hike the Appalachian Trail.
As it turns out, thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail provides just the right amount of time for a truly awesome beard. And really, what better time is there to grow one than when hiking in the mountains?
This man decided to photo document his beard growth through near-daily pictures along the trail. Fair warning: he was hiking from March to September of 2015. Plan accordingly.
Pretty impressive, huh? Measured in another unique way, hiking from Georgia to Maine is the required time to achieve beard greatness. That is, if you can afford to spend that much time hiking in the mountains.
If you’ve read ‘A Walk in the Woods’ by Bill Bryson, or seen the recently released movie, you’ll be familiar with the entertaining sense of adventure of hiking the Appalachian Trail.
This hiker captures that sense of curiosity and adventure by letting his beard grow out. It’s really a very practical decision for thru-hiking, as it eliminates the need for shaving equipment and the time effort of doing so.
However, it’s also a prime opportunity to take beard selfies each day and see what your body can do. Now if we could all just have the time to try this on the trail!
