Daily Dose of Awesome: The Real Railgun of the U.S. Navy [VIDEO]

The U.S. Navy railgun can do some serious damage.

The Department of Defense has released a video of the awesome damage capabilities of the railgun, and we can’t stop watching the sheer power and velocity this next-generation weapon can produce.

Warning: Watching this video will make you manlier.

It’s safe to say no one wants to be on the receiving end of a railgun.

The U.S. Navy’s electromagnetic railgun is raising the bar on modern weaponry. It can launch projectiles at 4,500 MPH and obliterate targets over 100 miles away.

Instead of chemical propellants, the railgun uses electricity to launch projectiles between two conductive rails. This kinetic energy, unlike explosives, can destroy targets on land, sea, and air. Additionally, it makes the Navy ship safer by removing the need to carry so many explosive weapons.

In 2016, the U.S. Navy plans to carry and test a prototype railgun aboard one of its vessels. The Railgun is a force to be reckoned with, and we are glad to born in the USA.
