This Couple Quit Their Jobs to Visit All 59 National Parks, and They're Almost Done

This husband and wife quit their jobs to see all the national parks in a year.

Many people have a bucket-list goal of seeing all 59 national parks in their lifetimes. But Cole and Elizabeth Donelson took that goal a step farther. They saved up and quit their jobs with the goal of doing just that, but in only a year's time!

And they're getting closer and closer to completing their goal about nine months into the trip. Hear about some of their best and worst experiences in the video.

Last week the Donelsons were in the Pacific Northwest to visit Olympic, Mount Rainier and North Cascades National Parks. In case you're wondering, those bring their total up to 42 for the year. They first embarked on their journey last August.

They also have a goal to raise awareness of National Parks among younger people and the recreation opportunities they provide over the more typical overseas vacations many younger people take.

"We felt like there's so much in our backyard," Elizabeth told King 5 News. "We want to share with people and we want to inspire people our age to go out and see."

Considering the National Park Service turns 100 years old this year, they certainly picked an appropriate time for the trip of a lifetime!
