Man learns what it feels like to be shot in the foot.
A 30-year-old Colorado Springs man told investigators that his gunshot wound was intentional. According to police, Adam Hirtle shot himself in the foot on Wednesday night because he wanted to know what it felt like. Well, now he knows.
He also now knows what it's like to face criminal charges. Hirtle is facing charges of reckless endangerment, prohibited use of weapons, and child abuse.
Local authorities were originally called to the scene around 7 p.m. for an accidental gun discharge. Upon their arrival, Hirtle told police that he shot himself in his garage with a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun. What they didn't expect to hear was that he the gun shot wound wasn't an accident.
"Hirtle stated he took his boot off and shot it, then placed his boot back on his foot and then intentionally shot himself in the foot," police say. "He did not sustain life-threatening injury nor was anybody else injured."
Reports state that Hirtle was treated at a nearby hospital, but have not confirmed the time in which he was released.
I'd still be interested in hearing more detail behind his reasoning and his final conclusion. In any case, it looks like someone really needs to read up on their gun safety rules.
