Looking for great ice fishing opportunities? Head to Catawba Island State Park in Ohio, before it's too late.
Catawba Island State Park had so many anglers eager to go ice fishing that the overflow of parking spilled out onto the frozen Lake Erie.
John Windau of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources told reporters that parking lots were overflowing, and emergency vehicles would not have been able to get to the area in the event of an emergency.
ODNR will be limiting parking to lots and the area along the northbound lane from the beach towards the Sportsman's Migratory Bird Center. During busy hours, Wildlife employees will be helping anglers get their cars parked at Catawba Island State Park.
Reportedly, walleye biting is great and it's the reason so many anglers are flocking to Catawba Island State Park. Mark Evans, a worker at Herb's Sportsman's Supply on Catawba Island, told reporters, "Everyone wants walleye."
According to customers, the best biting is taking place about 3/4 of a mile from shore.
With the use of fishing lures in florescent colors tipped with shiners, the best times to get these fish are early in the morning and mid-afternoon, according to Evans.
