A fishing charter on the Fraser River in British Columbia caught and released an eleven foot monster albino sturgeon.
Chad Helmer of Chad’s Fishing Charters might not have believed it himself had he not caught the this 11-foot albino sturgeon himself, and took some amazing photos.
The long time fisherman out of Chilliwack hooked up with the brute on a trip down the Fraser River, and after a two-and-a-half hour battle, got a look at a fish he described as “wicked and unbelievable.”
The Helmer family has fished this stretch of the river for four decades and has neither seen nor heard of anyone latching into an albino sturgeon before.
Helmer called the fish an albino for obvious reasons and said “We’ve never, ever seen one like that before”
The charter captain said that the fish measured over 11 feet in length and some five feet in girth.
He explained that the huge fish had white skin and pale yellow markings rather than the usual grey color.
Owen Bird, Director of the Sport Fishing Institute of B.C. said “No doubt, that is an unusual fish and big for its kind. I don’t know for sure if it is albino, but agree it is very different in coloring and pale.”
After taking the photos the crew of fishermen released the leviathan back into the waters of the Fraser River.
