No, really. Who can help us explain why this wild California hog has blue fat?
Photos of a harvested wild California hog, recently posted to Imgur, have garnered some attention. It appears that a layer of fat on the inside of the hog is completely blue.
You can probably understand by that last sentence what all the fuss is about!
It doesn't just end there. More photos of this hog show the blue fat is literally everywhere. Despite this seemingly strange anomaly, everything else about the wild hog was completely normal.
I've shot deer before with some blue on the inside but that is typically around where the intestines are. However, seeing something like this would make me not want to touch this pig!
A sample of the blue fat has been sent to UC Davis for further study.
However, in the meantime, if anyone knows what the heck is going on here, please enlighten us!
