At a beach near Dorset, England, beachgoers were shocked and amazed by a new visitor: a 12-foot shark.
The dorsal fin poking from the top of the water definitely received a few questionable looks and incited some fear, but one man who ran a shark diving business in Egypt recognized the shark right away. Per The Sun, Dickon Smith immediately identified it as a juvenile basking shark.
About 10 feet from the beach, the shark just perusing the coastline, following what is assumed to be a plankton bloom.
Smith said that the shark drew some attention, though mostly it was excitement. It's rare to see one swimming so close to the shoreline, but juvenile basking sharks can be bolder than the adults.
The harmless shark swam away after a minute, but it was an unforgettable encounter.
