Presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson reiterates his pro-gun stance.
Potential Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson spoke yesterday at the National Rifle Association's Annual Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee.
"The baton of freedom is in our hands," Carson said at the NRA Leadership Forum, referring to firearm ownership rights as a major issue and vital to protecting Americans from government overreach.
"We must make absolutely sure that we will never let the right to keep and bear arms be removed from those who follow us in this nation," Carson said. "Let me make it absolutely clear that I am extremely pro-Second Amendment. I will never let anyone tamper with that right."
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Carson saw how guns and gun violence can negatively impact a community. His job as a neurosurgeon sometimes involved dealing with head wounds from gunshots.
"It was horrible," he said. "But I can assure you it is nowhere near as horrible as having an unarmed populace under an armed government."
