Even though he calls Texas home, Kelly Mitchell was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, a sportsman’s paradise. Of his childhood, Mitchell says, “We didn't hunt or fish for fun, we did it to eat.” The rhythms and blues of the Delta, still run deep in his blood giving him a poetic flair and plenty humor in his writing. It also drove him to Delta State University and a Park Ranger position with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. The fever for all things handguns did not come along until a trip through Basic Training at the Law Enforcement Training Academy and becoming a certified NRA Law Enforcement Training Instructor. With MDWFP, Mitchell ended up in the office wrestling with issues in outdoor recreation, resource management, preservation, tourism, and in the policy making arena. It was in the legal end of the business where he found his stride, going on to earn a Masters Degree in Public Administration. This insider’s experience allows him to provide meaningful insight in to current issues and policy making. Mitchell currently resides in Katy, Texas with his wife and three of his four children.
