In the wake of the worst mass shooting in United States history, popular southern sporting goods shop, Academy Sports plans to pull all modern sporting rifles from their shelves.
One day after the horrific terror attack that struck a popular Orlando nightclub and killed 49 people, Academy Sports distributed an internal memo stating that it would be pulling all modern sporting rifles from the shelves out of respect for the victims.
Shown below was a photo from one location where a firearms display counter sits practically empty where rifles used to be.
Additionally, other items such as "airsoft and bb guns resembling an assault rifle", per The Firearm Blog, would also be removed from store shelves. Academy Sports still plans on selling this firearms and products, they just will not be out for display.
A source close to Academy Sports also mentioned that customers who choose to purchase "more than 10 boxes in a caliber that Academy deems an "assault rifle caliber" will require the buyer to furnish personal information that Academy is planning on keeping in a database".
Whether it's true or not one thing is for certain, Academy should plan on storing thousands of people's information, as ammunition sales have been soaring lately as gun owners look ahead to more restrictive measures that could be coming down the pipeline from Washington.
