In an amazing act of animal compassion, a family of dogs watched over a fawn killed in the wildfires ensuring it wasn't eaten by predators.
Dogs are known to show an enormous amount of compassion and even grief. Although no one can truly dissect what is happening in this image, it is powerful none the less.
Louis Armstrong, a Kamiah, Idaho resident, was surveying the damage from the wildfires that are currently ravaging the Idaho wilderness.
As he was checking his acreage, he noticed that his neighbor's sheep dogs, a mother and her two puppies, were standing guard over a fawn killed in the fires.
Armstrong said he checked on the dogs throughout the day and it seemed they were protecting the fawn's body from potential predators and humans.
The wildfire in northern Idaho has forced nearly 1,600 homes to be evacuated and 42 homes in Kamiah have been destroyed.
